It Girl

Likeable guy magnet Cat Deeley

Why her?
Because few manage to be a sex symbol who's also liked by women, but 22-year-old Cat's succeeding, albeit accidentally. She never went to stage school ("I was just some kid from Birmingham. I never knew about that sort of thing"), becamu Ulrika to Ant and Dec's Vic and Bob (because they "thought I was a nice girl they could have a laugh with basically"), can't shake her Brummie accent and defines her appeal as: "I look alright, I can do the job and I have absolutely no problem with looking stupid. In fact that part of the job quite appeals to me."

On her creative inspiration:
"When I was six I wanted to be Julie Andrews. ThenI ended up at this really academic grammar school where everyone wanted to be lawyers or doctors. So I did my A levels and realised I still wanted to be Julie Andrews."

On her first job:
"I worked behind the bar at a pub. The landlord would pretend to be my dad when the punters got cheeky."

On appearing in men's mags:
"They can make things easier. They can make a difference. I don't want to wake up when I'm 40 and feel that I missed out."

On her portrayal in men's mags:
"You end up being the person the mag wants you to be. I'm a lot more rounded than many of those interviews suggest."

On SMTV Live:
"We've been playing Wonky Donkey for 52 weeks now and the kids still don't get it. You go: 'It's an animal and it's got to rhyme', and they still go: 'Er, big cat?'"

On putting out for MTV:
"I'm not Jo Whiley but you do need to have seen the bands, been to the festival yourself. I have to be informed."

On future projects:
"I'm baby-faced and 22. What other job could I reasonably do than present SMTV?
