Cat Deeley
Minutes after getting her Woman Of The Year award, TV
presenter and lad's mag uberbabe Cat Deeley is far
from fazed.
"I'm nothing special," she says. "I'm just a Brummie
scally." But to her fans she's a lot more than that.
Cat's the girl grown men lust after, women want to
look like and children want to be.
And at 23, with some exciting new TV projects in the
offing, she's also the girl we'll be seeing a lot more
of...
With the admission "I'm so uncool it's untrue," Cat
Deeley says she's long held an ambition to become
famous.
"I passed the stage every kid has to wanting to be on
the telly, went to grammar school where everyone was
going to be a lawyer or a doctor and kind of lost my
way a bit" she says.
"I was a model and was thinking what to do next, and
remembered the six-year-old girl who wanted to present
Blue Peter."
Since Cat Deeley joined Geordie duo Ant and Dec to
host the cult Saturday morning show SMTV:Live, she's
had to curb her infamous 'ladette' lifestyle.
Cat says, "You've got to be hard on yourself and
careful not to go out. I have to be fit and healthy.
Even if I'm slightly ill on a Saturday it kills me.
"It's a physically demanding job and even a sore
throat can knock me for six."
Despite a reputation for being 'one of the lads', and
a predilection for sinking pints faster than her TV
pals Ant and Dec, Cat looks in great shape.
But the former hockey player and model lets us in on
her new secret: "I've started having a personal
trainer twice a week," she says.
"It's a big thing for me as there's been times when
I've thought about just hiding from her when she comes
around."
Worldwide travels as a model and four years in London
haven't weakened Cat's strong Brummie accent and she's
remained steadfastly down-to-earth.
"No one will let me go all la-di-dah and showbizzy,"
she says. "And I don't think I ever will."
"At the first sign of trouble my dad Howard would drag
me back home kicking and screaming until I sorted
myself out."
Cat is committed to another year with SMTV:Live and
has other jobs fronting music shows coming up too.
Life is looking sweet for the star who turned her back
on university for a modelling and TV career. But she
has one big fear for the future.
"I have to admit I'm scared stiff of making a really
big mistake," she tells 24 Hours. "My dad keeps saying
I have to be ready because it will come."
